How to repurpose 1 blog post into 20 pieces of social media content

Producing a blog post takes time and effort. First you have to come up with a topic before researching what information and SEO keywords to include. Only then can you sit down and write the actual content. But, before you hit publish, a good chunk of time still needs to be spent editing and polishing up the final version.

When you’re busy producing whatever it is you produce for your customers, you may be wondering whether investing in your blog even gives you a return. To answer that question, YES it does! Read my post Why have a blog for your business to find out how it can help market your business.

But, there’s also a great way to get more mileage from just one blog post and it’s called repurposing content.

What is repurposing blog content?

In a nutshell, repurposing content is all about taking your blog post and using it to quickly create extra pieces of content and reach more people. It saves you time and money by simplifying the process for producing social media content.

Here are a few more benefits to repurposing your content:

  • Helps your SEO by giving more opportunities to use keywords and driving traffic to your original post.

  • Increases awareness of your brand because you’re seen digitally more often and in more places.

  • Gives your content a longer lifespan because you’re producing repurposed content which points back to the original post.

  • Enables you to reach a wider audience by producing the type of content they like to see (eg. videos, text, graphics).

How to repurpose your blog content

Now that I’ve whet your appetite, read on for 20 ways you can repurpose your blog content.

1. Infographic

Take snippets of information from the blog post to create an infographic (Canva has great templates) to share on social media.

2 . Facts and data

Create social media posts by using statistics and linking back to your original blog post for more information.

3. Text quote

Take simple quotes from the blog post and type them directly into Twitter, sharing a link to your original post.

4. Quote graphic

Use simple quotes to create a graphic which can be shared on social media (Canva is great for these templates too).

5. Guest blog post

Using the blog post topic, rewrite the content to share on another website, giving your company name and website so that web traffic can be driven back to you.

6. Instagram story

Create an Instagram story to link back to your original blog post.

7. Video (YouTube, Facebook, IGTV)

Using the blog post content, create videos of differing lengths to share on different platforms.

8. Podcast

Create a podcast episode from the original content, or use it to secure a guest position on somebody else’s podcast.

9. Poll or survey

These are really fun ways to share your content on Instagram, and also to get customer feedback and new topic ideas.

10. Webinar

Create a series of slides to share as a webinar for anyone interested in learning more.

11. Instagram carousel post

Take salient information to create a carousel post to share on Instagram.

12. Email newsletter

Include the blog post to form part of your email newsletter.

13. Evergreen content

Information which is not date bound can be shared multiple times on social media.

14. Behind the scenes

People love behind the scenes posts, so take a screenshot of you producing the content.

15. eBook

Use the blog post to create a downloadable book.

16. Useful tips

Take useful tips from the blog post and share over one or multiple social media posts.

17. Share elsewhere

Produce a shortened version of the blog post to share on other channels such as Medium or LinkedIn.

18. Create a checklist

Summarise the blog post in a downloadable checklist - you can sign up to download my SEO checklist here and my Guide to blogging here.

19. Live Q&A’s

Set up Facebook live to talk about the blog post topic and answer Q&A’s from the public.

20. Expert interviews

Use bullet points from the blog post to create questions for interviews with experts on the topic.

Writing just 1 blog post means you can come up with tons of extra content for your social media accounts.

It allows you to connect with your audience in different ways and on the platforms they prefer, scaling up your marketing efforts without expending tons of energy developing new ideas.
